So the last night of Biohazard’s ‘In your f*cking face’ tour lands in London - what a perfect way to warm-up in freezing cold February on a Friday night.
Each support tonight make their own stamp on a genre Biohazard have been part of for over 10 years, and each show how the young are able to keep the ferocity of Hardcore going.
With a slot just five minutes after doors opened, London’s Dripback have a hard task, faced with a small crowd that has hardly had time to take off their jackets and grab a pint. But unfazed, looking at home with their feet firmly under the table, they surge through a 25-minute set and remain on relentlessly good form.
With the Underworld gradually filling up, Bay Area’s Lionheart take their turn at riling up a sparse Underworld. It’s not long before pints are spilled and people start moving to the healthy slab of authentic hardcore placed before them. Just as the venue starts to stir, it’s down to Hertfordshire five-piece, Heights to keep things going with their post-Hardcore offering. Standing out ever so slightly on tonight’s bill, they too don’t have it easy but they hold their own and – for a young bunch playing to a crowd loyal to their genre – they’re pretty impressive.
At last it’s time for Biohazard’s ruthless assault, and they have the venue spilling out with people. Heading straight in with ‘Failed Territory’ and ‘Urban Discipline’, what seems like an ever-growing crowd quickly becomes a swirling mass of bodies with fans young and old bellowing out well-known lines. They may be without Evan Sienfield, but with Billy Graziadei up front they tear the place to shreds, no prisoners, throwing in tracks like ‘Retribution’ and ‘Chamber Spins Three’. Tonight they kick it old-school and look ready to take on anything, giving London a Hardcore show the way it’s meant to be done. |
