The earth starts to rumble as Thomas G. Warrior’s Triptykon churn out a more doomier than usual version of ‘Procreation of the Wicked’, possibly doubling the length of the song but it’s too good to worry about things like that! After an actual Triptykon track the heavens open for the entirety of ‘Circle of the Tyrants’, with plenty of the customary Warrior grunts. To end proceedings they decide to fill up the second half of the set with the 20 minute monster ‘The Prolonging’, and why not eh? The performance is immense and utterly faultless.
At first Coroner are barely visible due to a slight overdose of dry ice but from the off things are going well, they blast out a proper dose of their best tracks. One of the most impressive things about this band is the blending of trad-thrash with technical and progressive elements without it sounding pretentious or losing the song!
The Sophie Lancaster tent is bursting at the seams as Lawnmower Deth start their set, such is the popularity of their comedic punk thrash and reputation for bonkers live performances. They certainly don’t disappoint and everyone appears to be having a great time and the crowd is literally bouncing as ‘Satan’s Trampoline’ is rolled out, which is always painfully hilarious. They round things off with their version of ‘Kids in America’ and it’s a case of a job well done![CG]
After Corner warmed up the denim jacket jury of the festival, tectonic triumphs Kreator do what they do best; circulating ferocious energy both on and off the stage. Delving into their illustrious discography, the Germans take us through the ages with classics like ‘Pleasure to Kill’ as well as a treat with a rare airing of ‘Voices of the Dead’. As usual, frontman Mille whips out his ‘Flag of Hate’ and all ends with a bang.
It’s not surprising The Devin Townsend Project receive one of the biggest crowds of the day, seeing as they are the first band to be allowed to play two consecutive years at Bloodstock. Unlike last year, the set goes swimmingly, as Devin and co are as charismatic as ever. Showcasing a few newbies like the crushing ‘Juular’, the mad scientist of the metal world finishes off by taking cheesy number ‘Vampira’’s live virginity leaving everyone beaming and wishing the set was longer than an hour.[LR] |
