Infest Festival

Bradford University

2010

PREVIEW

27th- 29 August 2010

In 1998, 3 students from Bradford University and the campus SU Events Co-ordinator came together and ignited the spark; in August, after a non-planned and pained hiatus, Infest is back (with Project Pitchfork, Rotersand and Nachtmahr taking up the spots which in previous years have boasted names such as VNV Nation, Apoptygma Berzerk and Blutengel).

As well as boasting big name-artists in the Industrial/EBM world, Infest is also no stranger to being the beacon of consistent DJ-talent with popular-floor fillers being filed in from over-seas. Independent and little known DJs have also been bought forward in the past to play packed-out venues between acts. This aspect has always been seen as a cornerstone of the event and important element to the festival’s respected ‘grassroots’ approach.

Apart from the thriving London industrial/EBM following, Infest is the only event in the country of its kind. Attracting the vibrant culture that it has been built around, year in, year out, the quality of this years band roster shows that it hasn’t just been the festival goers that have missed Infest due to its temporary but necessary hiatus.

Project Pitchfork

Germany-based Project Pitchfork are without a doubt one of best-known EBM acts in the world, and have revelled in over two decades of success. After a number of dates in the last year that have been driven by the release of last year’s ‘Dream, Tiresias,’ their mixture of almost omniscient 80’s-influenced electro pop and crowd-friendly, right-out-of-Cubase synthesizers will make the glowsticks swing as soon as these electro-veterans take their place on the Infest stage.

Nachtmahr

After the storming success of this year’s ‘Madchen in Uniform’ EP, Austrian goth-veteran Thomas Rainer (of L’ame Immortalle) will be stretching his hardened-EBM wings under his slightly more sensually-heightening moniker. Driven to start off with by the popularity of Rainer’s older alter-ego, it wasn’t long before Nachtmahr started to make a name for itself and gain its own enthusiastic and loyal fan-base. Steered forward by Nachtmahr’s first major release ‘Alle Lust Will Ewigkeit,’ his more recent release was a bolt from the blue incorporating more accessible synthetic elements along with a flourishing necessity to create razor-sharp, stomp-heavy  and hard-hitting floor-fillers.

Rotersand

It has taken the best part of ten years for Rotersand to achieve the regard that they have earned, and with the release of last years ‘Random is Resistance,’ it isn’t a challenge to see why. Regularly associated with futurepop big names such as VNV Nation, Covenant and Assemblage 23, Rotersand regularly take stage at the summer festivals owing to the atmospheric and self proclaimed industrial pop that is accentuated by the bigger venues that festivals are usually associated with. It is no doubt that Infest will be no different and the delivery will equal the demand from the energetic Infest crowds.
