The Underworld
The Underworld was packed for a night of grind-orientated extreme metal, with one of grind’s inventors headlining the spectacle.

Kicking off the show was London-based Nebukadnezza. This three-piece blasted out technical thrash riffs in the vein of the classic thrash. With two vocalists, their stage presence was unfortunately compromised but nonetheless they had heads banging.

The Descent were an interesting hybrid of death and black metal, with one particular song siding towards melodic death metal. They were intensely heavy and got the crowd moving a fair deal, no doubt due to their unintentionally amusing stage banter.

Gorerotted’s reincarnation The Rotted took the stage, opening with ‘Angel of Meth’, inciting violence in the audience. Although most of the set was composed of Get Dead or Die Trying material including ‘Kissing You With My Fists’ and ‘The Howling’, the Gorerotted song ‘Only Tools and Corpses’ was presented and received a highly celebrated reaction. With Gorerotted’s typical down-to-Earth stage presence intact with The Rotted’s, the set was a rather memorable one and did not soil the Gorerotted name in the slightest.

Napalm Death turned the audience into pure carnage, with bodies dispensed in every direction and every surface coated in sweat. Frontman Barney’s stage presence was akin to a hyperactive child as the band punched through succinct numbers from throughout their career, including ‘Scum’, ‘The Silence Is Deafening’ and the world’s shortest song ‘You Suffer’. The crowd were additionally treated to previews from the upcoming album Time Waits for No Slave as well as Barney’s trademark socio-political diatribes. The encore was a cover of Dead Kennedy’s ‘Nazi Punks Fuck Off’ and the classic Napalm Death song ‘Siege of Power’. This high-octane show as a violent delight and illustrated why Napalm Death are on top of their game, even after nearly thirty years.
