The Tardy Brothers consist of Donald Tardy and John Tardy, the driving force behind heavier-than-heavy death metal legends Obituary, original Xecutioner guitarist Jerry Tidwell and Ralph Sontolla (Death, Deicide, Obitiuary...). With so many Obituary members in one band, its not surprising that this sounds at the very least, similar to the Floridan stalwarts. However, upon closer inspection, this is definitely a more rock 'n' roll sounding album. Recorded at the brothers' new studio, you get the feeling this is the result of more musical freedom to pursue any style the brothers and their friends so wished - be it thrash, rock, death metal, groove, or straight up heavy metal without any record label hassle. Having gotten used to producing their own albums since Obituary's last outing 'Xecutioners Return', this sounds awesomely heavy - lots of bottom end, but with enough clarity to stop it sounding like mud. However, as good as this is, it still feels like a warm-up to the next Obituary record, and not the full assault we were hoping for. For that you'll have to wait for 'Darkest Day', which comes out June 30th.
