Well what do we have here? A bonafide old-school death metal compilation, only every band (all 51 of them) are exclusively from Sweden. This comp is the most in-depth many will have seen for such a relatively unknown genre - 3 discs covering what seems like every band from 1986 right up to today's retro-loving extreme metal Swedes. Sensibly, the bands are chronologically ordered, so the listener can hear the evolution of the scene unfold. From under-underground bands (Suffer, Obscurity, Mefisto) to more internationally-known bands (Entombed, At The Gates, Marduk) this comp covers them all, including the particularly awesome Crypt Of Kerebros (check 'em out, heaviest of the heavy!). The excellent in-depth liner-notes by Daniel Ekeroth accompanying each song complete this compilation nicely, and although this comp could be a little shorter, and the absense of Bathory is startling for anyone into death metal, this would be a wise purchase!
