Some hugely entertaining stuff from these death metal bruisers – uncompromising, blastbeat-worshipping brutality intercepted with the occasional blast of...classical music? It's a technique that many grindcore acts have used to comic effect, but here the careful orchestration of the odd piano piece is a fascinating addition to an album that pushes all kinds of buttons
This is far from menial gimmickry though, with subtle melodic moments and ripping solos ticking just the right boxes for melodeath lovers and those looking to wander into darker territories, but it is still the likes of 'As Tyrants Fall', with an outro that is swept away in a torrent of violins and cellos, that provide the real highlights. By the time the instrumental title track brings things to a close, one isn't sure whether a glass of red wine or a chainsaw massacre would serve as the perfect afterthought.
