Oceano play full on, in your face metal straight out of Chicago. The band pride themselves on their brutality and anger and its easy to see why. “Depths” is a no holds barred sonic maelstrom, mixing extreme metal genres to leave the listener’s ears bleeding.

Dynamic tempo changes and atmospheric fret work in songs such as “Samael The Destroyer” mix up the aggression and keep things interesting. The general fury is also interspersed with hardcore style breakdowns which stagger things a bit and help build up tension. Whilst vocally there is a fair amount of diversity, ranging from guttural death metal growling to anguishing higher end screams. 
 

However, there is nothing particularly new on offer here, there is nothing that makes the album truly stand out. Technically it is sublime but without anything original “Depths” struggles to avoid mediocrity.
