It would be fair enough to assume that a Thin Lizzy album released today and based on 70’s recordings would sound dated. However, Still Dangerous is proof that this certainly isn’t the case. Giving the listener a nostalgic trip back down memory lane to the true era of sex, drugs and rock and roll, the album is a testament to Thin Lizzy at their best.

Taken from recordings of the 1977 tour which spawned the hugely successful “Live And Dangerous” album, this offering is much rawer and to the point. Classics such as “Jailbreak” and “Boys Are Back In Town” particularly suit the live format and there is a great deal of energy to be felt in these songs. Even the slightly less cliché tracks make for great listening; “Dancing In The Moonlight” for instance is Jazzy and chilled out, showing the diversity of the band.

Only the audience participation really holds the album back. “Baby Drives Me Crazy” sounds like a weak version of the Blues Brothers and grows old quickly. Generally the crowd’s presence can’t really be felt and it’s the band who really generate the power and energy that characterises the album.

Since Phil Lynott’s death, Thin Lizzy haven’t released any new material, so the occasional live offering seems like the most we are going to get. However, “Still Dangerous” is a very solid album and really captures the band at their best.
