AESTHETIC PERFECTION – ALL BEAUTY DESTROYED (9)
After 'A Violent Emotion' in 2008, there was an air of derision that chided at the core of the alternative music world. Whilst some were quick to brush off Daniel Graves as an emo-wannabe with no focus, most clambered with open arms to get a piece of this enigmatic front man. All Beauty Destroyed gives you everything that was exciting about his previous releases with the ballsy attitude cranked up to blistering point.
With the dancefloor beats taking a back-seat to the poppy structures of pleasers such as ‘Hit the Streets’ and ‘One and Only’ serving to create the artistic void that allow the stripped-down, bludgeoning of ‘A Nice Place to Visit’ to grind as loudly as intended, 'All Beauty Destroyed' is a salute to Graves' musical past and is the album that he always wanted to make.
Encapsulating the goth undertones of Necessary Response and more accessible pop progressions has led to a mass of criticism, the result is a masterpiece by an individual who has embraced the opportunity to make an album he wanted to outside the guise of popular culture. '...Destroyed' prides itself on its musical ingenuity and has taken Aesthetic Perfection to realms that are not in its comfort zone – somewhere very few dare to tread.
