| Breaking The Waves - Dopefight |
Well well well, we seem to be going through a purple patch of UK doom at the moment – well, from the time a little known band from the Midlands called Black Sabbath made a few tunes and changed the world forever. And this week on Breaking The Waves, we bring you Brighton trio Dopefight. A few miles up the coast from where Bournemouth vomited forth Electric Wizard, Dopethrone have been going since March 2009, and last year released their full-length ‘Buds’ last year, and like Eyehategod, plumbs the depths of sickness. Drawing influences from Bongzilla, Hail Hornet, Church Of Misery, Nailbomb, ‘Buds’ barrels along like Donkey Kong after having his banana spiked with ketamine. As the lads say “We’re all punks at heart so maybe the fact that we have less patience than most stoner/doom bands, we get bored fairly easily so like to write songs that change a fair amount.” And over the course of ‘Buds’, through songs like ‘Levithan’s Burp’ and ‘Spaceman’, they provide the sort of riffs that will rattle your sternum. ‘Buds’ is available from their Big Cartel: dopefight.bigcartel.com and Funeral Industries: http://funeral-industries.com/
