In the case of The Fire & I, less is definitely more. This Scottish two-piece released their debut ‘Stampede Finale’ at the tail-end of 2010, and it’s still keeping the Soundshock stereo dancing into 2011. We get the lowdown on the Scottish sensations.

First of all, who does what in your band?

Gordon does bass and Hooligan drums.  We always write songs together, and inspiration can come from either of us.

Where are you from?

3/4 Bathgate, Scotland and 1/4 Mexico City

How long have you been together?

Almost 4 years now, although we started as a 4-piece. Times have changed though.

Who are your main inspirations for The Fire & I?

It's just ourselves really... and Nirvana. Maybe Biffy and us.  And Eels!

What do you think makes The Fire & I stand out?

That we make a full sound from 2 guys and really mean it.  We sound different to everything else. Initially we started writing songs for fun, but now it's more of a necessity.

After being in a four-piece how is it different to be just you two?

I guess now it works like a domino effect , one side motivates the other.  We are each other's critic in a way.

Could you describe The Fire And I live experience?

Every gig is different - we feed off the crowd's energy a lot and like to get sweaty on stage.  We like to rock out.

How's the positive reception to ‘Stampede Finale’ felt?

It feels great.  It's good to receive some payback from the work we've put in over the last couple of years, and the album reviews we've had so far have been very flattering. Better work is to come...

What's next for The Fire And I?

We're working on a lot of new material, so should be back in the studio by the end of summer.  Lots of gigs coming up and are planning a tour.

Finally is there anyone you want to thank?

Sure, you!  And everyone who's bought the album or managed to come to our shows, and Jamie Duffy.

Stampede Finale’ is out now on CrashCar Records, and if you haven’t bought it, you need to.
